Aesthetic Dentistry

Aesthetic Dentistry
Everybody wants to have the perfect smile, but not everyone can be lucky. Even if you are one of the lucky people who did not need to wear orthodontic braces, stains, fractures and a general dirty appearance can occur on your teeth due to habits such as smoking and coffee.
In the past, there was not much that could be done to improve the appearance of the tooth, except to have teeth cleaned 1-2 times a year. But the advances in materials, technology and restorative techniques in dentistry in the last 25 years have enabled us to have teeth that are as strong as original and resistant to discoloration. If you want to brighten your smile or correct the disorders, we are probably living in the best period to date and aesthetic dentistry procedures are now very popular.
Things You Should Consider Before Deciding for Aesthetic Dentistry
Cost of treatment can be high. Do not expect to find quality aesthetic dentistry services cheaply due to a sensitive technique and expensive materials.
Most aesthetic dentistry procedures are not covered by insurances. The materials used are not indestructible. Porcelain crowns, inlays and laminates are much stronger and more durable than they are, but they can’t last forever. They may break or crack or the filler used may become weak. If you are 70 years old, there is a chance that your restorations will last longer than you. But young people may need to repeat this process every 10-15 year.
It is important to be realistic. Dentists who are experts in aesthetic dentistry procedures can adapt the materials used very well, shape and polish the materials used to make them really impressive, but they can’t change the shape of your mouth, the color of your skin or your general appearance. Dental restorations need to fit you in order to look natural. Aesthetic dentistry improves your appearance, contributes positively, but does not completely change you. Except for exceptions, when you get your teeth done, don’t expect a brand new you and your whole life to change. Laughing better and more comfortably, even in an impressive way, will have very positive contributions to your social and business life, but you need to have realistic expectations, and your dentist will guide you about what can be achieved and the limits.
Aesthetic Dentistry on Nowadays
There is a growing interest in getting a youthful appearance all over the world nowadays. This, of course, is reflected in our mouths when we smile, and even better, a young and beautiful smile makes our face and us look younger. In recent years, more and more people have become interested in teeth that are smooth, blemished and free of fractures.
This is of course intriguing, thanks to television shows that broadcast renewal programs. Whitening product ads are widely seen in newspapers, magazines, internet and televisions. Various articles are being written about smile renewal and whitening products. That’s why people want their teeth to be smoothy and shiny. Dental clinics offer a variety of services such as porcelain laminate, tooth whitening, replacement of amalgam filling with white fillings (composite or porcelain onlay) in accordance with consumer supply. There is no clear figure on how many aesthetic dental treatments are made in US per year. From 1996 to 2010, the number of members of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry doubled to 4700. More than %95 of dentists are actually applying whitening treatment and almost all dentists provide aesthetic services. Most aesthetic dentistry services are not covered by insurance unless the treatment includes fillings, crown or similar restorations. Treatments that can be considered aesthetic and not covered by insurance are full ceramic crowns, porcelain laminate and composite fillings. Aesthetic treatments can be easily cost more than 1000 Turkish Liras per tooth. Despite its difficulty and cost, more people feel that refreshing their smiles is just as important as buying a new dress or a hair style.
Thanks to advances in cosmetic techniques, dentists can repair damaged teeth without using amalgam or gold.
Beautiful as New
Although dentists have made aesthetic restorations for years, the materials used, such as old composite fillings, can crack and fade over time.
New composite materials and porcelain veneers are much stronger than before and can withstand discoloration much longer. 10-20 years ago, people with broken teeth either lived like this or used time-consuming and expensive porcelain crown treatment. Although porcelain crown applications are still used in anterior teeth; It is possible to repair minor defects, fractures and damaged teeth with composite filling and to adapt the color of neighboring teeth, in cases when more serious aesthetic problems and expectations are high, porcelain laminate applications gives the highest level of results if all conditions are suitable.
There are also imaging techniques that enable dentists to design digital smiles on computer screen. The patient who wants to be treated can see the results before making his/her decision. Since this imaging technique is relatively new, it may be less common.

Digital Smile Design
Thanks to the development in computer technology, it is possible to see the before and after conditions of your teeth before the treatment begins. This method, called Digital Smile Design, allows the dentist to give you detailed information about the treatment you want.
Using this technology, the dentist can show how your tooth will look after the treatment you want by projecting the image of your tooth on the screen and making corrections on it. You should be aware that this process may not be very simple or quick and may have an extra cost.
Imaging may not be required either. If you are going to fill a fracture or narrow your teeth, you can estimate the results without a computer screen. Imaging may be useful if you are considering a more complex procedure.
An additional issue is that since the images created in digital smile design are 2D, they may not give filling of 3D depth that will actually occur. At this point, you should know that the image to be obtained is useful only for ‘’getting an idea’’. You can meet it by making a mockup (this is called a mockup) and applying it with an acrylic substance in your mouth on your teeth if it’s possible.
Nowadays, many dentists use these technologies or can get this service from the laboratories they work with.
What Can Be Done for Whiter Teeth?
You don’t have to be born with perfect teeth to have a bright smile. If your teeth are smooth but their colors are yellow or yellow over time with coloring foods such as tea and coffee or cigarettes tooth whitening is an ideal method to lighten the color of your teeth. With the method called tooth whitening, it is impossible to remove the discoloration and stains that occur over time.
What Are Laminate Veneers?
Porcelain laminate, laminate veneer, lamina veneer, emax laminate, empress laminate and ‘’leaf porcelains’’, in Turkish’’ describe the same process. Although we want to use the Turkish version ‘’leaf porcelain’’ we still prefer to use it this way because it is still referred to as ‘’laminate veneer’’ even in Turkish literatures.
Porcelain laminates are ultra-thin ceramic shells that are adhered to the front surface of the tooth, just like the artificial nails attached to nails, so they are called ‘’leaf porcelains’’. The most important requirement for it to be made is that the tooth is strong as structure.
