Breast Lifting

Breast Lifting
Breast hanging, softness, and deformation are among the most sensitive issues of women. Breast tissue, which does not contain muscle in its structure and consists entirely of sebaceous and milk glands, loses its old fresh and upright appearance due to gravity, aging, frequent weight gain, childbirth, breastfeeding, use of wrong bras. In this respect, it causes women to be restless and pushes them to seek various solutions.
Why Do Breasts Hang?
Breasts gradually hang over time due to the effect of gravity and the loss of elasticity of the skin due to age. Frequent weight gain and loss, birth and breastfeeding processes, and excessively large breasts cause hang to occur at earlier ages.
How is Breast Lift Surgery Decided?
In breast lift surgery, the patient is examined on an outpatient basis. Nipple location and amount of mammary gland are measured. The patient’s expectations are evaluated. If there is a slight sagging, if the amount of mammary gland is at an acceptable level, the breast becomes fuller and upright with the silicone breast prosthesis placed under the mammary gland. If the sagging is too much and the amount of mammary gland is sufficient, it is recovered similar to breast reduction techniques. If the sagging is excessive and the amount of mammary gland is insufficient, both a silicone prosthesis is placed on the breast and the breast augmentation is performed. In my opinion, this surgery is the most difficult breast surgery technically. The size of the prosthesis placed under the breast and the recovery rate of the breast skin is decided during the surgery.
How is Breast Lift Surgery Applied?
Regardless of the technique, breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the technique to be used, the duration of breast lift surgery varies between 2-4 hours. Silicone prosthesis is placed under the breast for patients with mild sagging. You can refer to the breast augmentation surgery section for extra information on the surgical technique and features. Patients who have obvious breast sagging and whose mammary gland is quite adequate are treated similar to breast reduction surgery. As a difference, the mammary gland is not reduced. For extra information about breast lift surgery, you can review the breast reduction section. If the amount of mammary gland is too insufficient, after the silicone prosthesis is placed under the breast, the abundance in the skin is collected similar to the breast reduction technique. The mammary gland is not removed.
Can I Breastfeed After Breast Lift Surgery?
The preservation of the lactation function depends on the technique chosen and the hanging of the breast. However, breastfeeding function is generally expected to be preserved.
Can There Be Hanging Again After Breast Lift Surgery?
A pregnancy or major weight changes that may occur after breast lift surgery may cause sagging of the breasts again. Therefore, it would be more appropriate to perform lifting surgery on patients who are no longer planning a child and whose basal body weight does not fluctuate.
What are the Problems May Occur During Breast Lift Surgery?

- Bleeding, blood loss, hematoma (blood accumulation in the tissue) may occur during or after breast lift surgery.
- Conditions such as delayed wound healing or significant scarring (hypertrophic scar – keloid) may occur especially in diabetics, heavy smokers, or those who are familiarly prone to bad scar development. These patients can be treated with some special methods.
- Infection, inflammation, wound opening, stitching may occur. These situations can be corrected by timely intervention. The opened seam can be sewn again.
- After the surgery, there may be fat necrosis, that is, the breakdown and melting of fat tissue. Depending on this, discharge may occur from the wound edge or between the sutures. In the postoperative period, there may be pain, burning, stinging sensation in the breasts.
- There is a risk of losing the nipple when using methods that protect the nipple in very hanging breasts. It would be more appropriate to prefer techniques in which the nipple is applied as a patch for patients with such a risk. For patients with nipple loss, it is possible to re-make the nipple by using methods in which surgical methods are combined with tattooing.
Recovery Process
It is usually comfortable after the operation. If a breast prosthesis is used during the operation, there may be limited arm movements for a few days. The dressing is opened after 2 days and the wound is controlled. After 7 days, the dressing is opened. The patient is put on a sports bra for 6 weeks. There may be swelling in the early period, numbness of the nipple, and pinkish discoloration on the skin. These disappear on their own in a short time. Depending on your job, you can return to your normal job in 3-4 days. It is recommended to stay away from heavy sports for 3 months. The newly shaped breast is durable for a long time. Aesthetic breast lift operation is an operation that gives good and permanent results in general, improves the mental health of the person and his partner, and makes them more committed to life.
