Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty
The upper arm spot, namely the muscle skin, may sag as a result of aging and especially as a result of gaining and losing too much weight. It disturbs the person when he raises the arm upwards and wears short sleeves. Arm aesthetics have also become essential for body beauty.
Why Does the Arm Skin Hang?
Due to the effect of gravity, loss of skin elasticity, and reduction of subcutaneous fat tissue due to the aging process, hanging occurs especially in the skin from the back and inner face of the upper arm towards the elbow.
How is Brachioplasty Applied?
Temporary solutions such as creams, firming corsets and arm exercises are solutions for arm hanging. However, the only and permanent solution for the patient with the arm hanging to get rid of this problem is surgery. If the lubrication in the arm area bothers you a lot, you will get a result that you will be happy with for life.
Brachioplasty is applied with general anesthesia. Depending on the hanging rate of the arm skin and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat tissue, the patient and doctor decide jointly on the technique of the operation to be performed. If there is a sagging skin loosening due to frequent weight gain and loss, the thickness of the skin is excessive. In these cases, liposuction is performed first. The skin that is discharged after liposuction is surgically removed and stretched. In some people, the skin discharge here can only be seen under the armpit. In such patients, excess skin under the armpit is removed with minimal stitches. If the gap in the skin continues up to the elbow, brachioplasty is applied starting from the elbow to the armpit. In this procedure, some scars may remain after the operation.
Patients with arm lift aesthetics do not need to repeat this operation at certain intervals. It is a one-time surgery. After the stretching process, the arm does not return to its original state. However, if the patient has made a habit of gaining and losing excess weight, arms sagging will be inevitable.
How is Brachioplasty Applied?
The surgery technique to be applied is decided depending on the hanging rate of the skin and the thickness of the subcutaneous adipose tissue. If there is skin loosening due to weight gain and loss, the thickness of the skin may be too high. Then, liposuction is applied first. After liposuction, the abundant skin is surgically removed. Sometimes the abundance of skin is limited to the armpits. The abundance of leather can then be picked up, leaving a limited scar that can be hidden under the armpit. In most cases, the abundance of skin is in the form of bagging that continues up to the elbow. In this case, arms stretching is performed by leaving a scar on the inner back of the arm that extends from the armpit to the elbow. This trace is not visible from the front and from behind.
How Long Does the Surgery Take and What Should Be Considered After the Surgery?
Brachioplasty is applied with general or local anesthesia in hospital conditions. The average duration of the operation is 1.5-2 hours. Those who have local surgery can be discharged on the same day, while patients who have surgery with general anesthesia can be discharged the next day. Showering is allowed 2 days after the operation. Elastic bandages are used in the first days. The arms are tried to be kept above the heart level. No stitches are required. Sports activities are allowed after 4-6 weeks.
Which Problems May Occur After the Surgery?
The problems that may be encountered are not different from other plastic surgery procedures. The scar on the back of the arm may be more prominent in some patients. Arm movements should be restricted as much as possible in order not to enlarge this scar, especially for 1 month after surgery.
Is There an Age Limit for This Surgery?
There is no age limit, but there is almost no possibility of such a problem at a very young age. Regarding advanced ages, patients of all ages with favorable general health conditions can have this operation.
